Embarking on her first world tour may seem like an insurmountable endeavor, but Dua Lipa doesn’t appear to be sweating the small stuff. While prepping in Miami for the debut of the Future Nostalgia Tour, Lipa soaked up the Floridian sunshine wearing a tiny crochet bikini — something she’s not unfamiliar with — in a statement-making (and Travis Barker approved) pattern: checkerboard. Her barely-there swimwear featured a retina-searing neon orange and mustard yellow check, and she finished the look with a pair of slim sunglasses, a beaded belly chain, and a bag from the Loewe Spirited Away collaboration with Studio Ghibli.

Lipa spoke about how excited she was to bring a live performance to her fans, telling WSJ. Magazine that it was a risk to release her Future Nostalgia album during the pandemic — and to bring the concerts to fans while everyone is still wrestling with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I always have this viewpoint that you have to be outside of your comfort zone for things to be rewarding,” she said. “So when the pandemic happened, and everyone was worried about whether we should release the album, I was just like, Fuck it, maybe it’s just what we need.

While everyone’s at home, maybe this is the album we should be putting out. It was scary, because you had no idea how long we were going to be in this pandemic. Everything was a big question mark. But I had a sense that we just had to do it.”

Last summer, Lipa debuted her love of crochet with a bikini that had a rainbow, marijuana leaf, and daisy patches while she lounged poolside. And after that, she showed that she could wear the knit away from the water, too, when she shared an Instagram gallery that showed off a crochet matching set in color-clashed granny squares.
