Former WWE Champion-turned-Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced he’s headed to Lone Star State after landing a new role with Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers.
Dwayne Johnson: The Midas Touch Inside and Out of the Ring
In recent years, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has proven his abilities as a master of all trades, seeing success across a variety of industries and brands.
After playing college football for the University of Miami and earning his Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Physiology in the mid-1990s, Johnson began his wrestling career, rising to super-stardom in World Wrestling Entertainment nearly overnight.
Johnson, first known as Rocky Maivia in the ring–and later as “The Rock”–quickly became one of the most decorated professional wrestlers of all time, being named in the same circles with pro wrestler Steve Austin and others.
Over the course of his wrestling career, Johnson earned numerous accolades and was named a ten-time world champion, two-time Intercontinental Champion, a 2000 Royal Rumble winner, and the WWE’s sixth Triple Crown Champion.
But he soon decided to set out toward new horizons in Hollywood.
Johnson played the role of the Scorpion King opposite actor Brendan Fraser in his first hit movie, The Mummy Returns, in 2001, and three years later, Johnson formally stepped out of the ring to focus on pursuing a career in acting–another successful move on his part.
Johnson has had roles in some of Hollywood’s most lucrative films and franchises, including the role of Luke Hobbs in The Fast and the Furious franchise and the role of Black Adam in the film by the same name. His career also includes roles in many movies for Disney, including The Game Plan, Moana, Race to Witch Mountain, and The Jungle Cruise (2021). In 2023, he announced his role as producer and star in the live-action take-two of Moana.
He has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after and highest-paid actors, but that’s not all he’s been up to since he left the world of professional wrestling.
Dwayne Johnson’s Business Acumen
The Rock has not only had success in the ring and in front of the camera. Over the years, the former wrestler-turned-Hollywood actor has proven he has what it takes to succeed and excel in multiple roles, and he has shown the world he can succeed in varying business ventures.
In addition to Johnson’s career as a professional wrestler and Hollywood actor, his resume and portfolio include investments in the energy drink company Zoa Energy, the investing app Acorns, and the Portland, Oregon-based ice cream venture Salt & Straw.
He also co-owns Seven Bucks Productions and is a partial owner in the United Football League. He is also the “rock” behind the Project Rock apparel brand, and in 2021, Dwayne Johnson founded the Teremana Tequila brand under the parent company Siete Bucks Drinks.
Teremana Tequila
Johnson says that creating a signature tequila brand has been in the works for years.
“After years of hard work, this is truly a dream come true,” he writes on the Teremana website. “My team and I are committed to bringing you the highest in quality tequila because quality, the people, the land, and legacy are what matter most. From all of us here at Teremana, we invite you to come have a drink.”
The tequila company, which Johnson launched in March 2021, quickly took off in popularity. Among “celebrity spirits,” Dwayne Johnson’s Teremana has become one of the most sought-after, and last week, Johnson announced that he’s heading to Texas in March because of his tequila brand.
2023 World Series Champion Texas Rangers
he Texas Rangers are part of Major League Baseball’s American League West Division. The team is based in the North Texas city of Arlington in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. As of 2020, the Rangers call Globe Life Field home.
The Texas Rangers baseball franchise was incepted in 1961, but the team’s initial name was the Washington Senators, as they were an expansion team that was awarded to Washington, D.C., after the city’s first baseball team relocated to Minnesota, ultimately becoming the Minnesota Twins.
It would be ten years before the Washington Senators finally became the Texas Rangers, debuting in 1971.
World Series Championship
In November 2023, as the season came to a close, the Texas Rangers had amassed a 90-72 record following defeat against the Houston Astros in a tiebreaker game, which resulted in the team’s loss of the American League West division title to the Astros.
But on November 1, the Rangers won the 2023 World Series after securing a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game Five.
The victory marked the Rangers’ first World Series championship in the baseball club’s history.
The WWE Meets the MLB. Kind Of . . .
Last week, Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers and Johnson’s Teremana Tequila struck an extremely lucrative, multi-year deal that will make Teremana the official tequila supplier of the 2023 World Series Champion Texas Rangers.
Per PRNewswire:
The multi-year partnership comes as a result of the shared values across both brands, emphasizing hard work, community, positive energy, and creating genuine impact on and off the field. It is also an extension of Teremana Tequila’s significant partnership with Texas Live!–Texas’ premier entertainment center.
Johnson took to X, formerly Twitter, to comment on the new deal with the Texas Rangers, saying he’s headed to Texas to toast the Rangers and their fans.
A Winning Partnership
With such a combination of winners–Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the 2023 World Series Champion Texas Rangers–the future looks bright for both parties in this winning partnership.
Johnson’s tequila brand is on track to continue its growth, while the Rangers’ 2023 championship could easily serve as the motivation and inspiration needed to see the Texas Rangers on track to become the 2024 champions.
Along the way, at least they know that they and their fans can responsibly enjoy a responsibly sourced tequila that is made in small batches and claims to be “the people’s tequila.”
The new Texas Rangers-Teremana Tequila deal goes into effect at the beginning of the 2024 season, which officially kicks off on March 28.
