Al Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo recently took a lie detector test hosted by Binance. During the test, the Portuguese superstar was faced with multiple hard questions, which made him admit that it was one of his hardest challenges yet.
During the test, he was asked, “Is Sir Alex Ferguson the best ever manager?” It was not a surprise to see the interviewer ask such a question, as everyone knows the father-son relationship Ronaldo shares with his former United manager.
Ronaldo said, “It is unfair for the other coaches I played with too. We have to consider that they are the best too.” A pretty safe answer from Ronaldo as he has also played under managerial greats such as Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.
Sir Alex, the most successful British manager of all time, signed Ronaldo back in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon and turned him into one of the greatest players ever. He also played a role in convincing Ronaldo to return to Manchester United in 2021, when he was very close to signing with rival Manchester City.
The Scotsman has always spoken in praise of the Portuguese and said he was the greatest Manchester United player during his time at Old Trafford. During an interview with Jonathan Ross, Ronaldo admitted that Sir Alex is the best manager he has played under. Under Sir Alex, Ronaldo scored 145 goals and 64 assists in 346 appearances.
Cristiano Ronaldo pays his respects to Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho came to Real Madrid with one job: to win La Decima (10th Champions League title). With the plethora of superstars around him, Jose unfortunately could not achieve this feat and could only take them to the semi-finals.
Mourino did win the league with the highest points and the most goals scored in La Liga history, and he also laid the foundation for the team that went on to win several Champions League titles.
Back in 2018, during an interview, Ronaldo said that he would put Mourinho at the top. He also said, “Jose Mourinho was a big thinker analytically, he went into everything in great detail.” The Portuguese would also love the idea of working with his former boss, which could have come to fruition as reports suggested that Mourinho was approached after the World Cup for the Portugal job after Fernando Santos was sacked.
The feeling is mutual, as the current Roma coach said that coaching Ronaldo has been the highlight of his career. Mourinho further added, “It’s like Zinedine Zidane for the French, there will be no other. He is incredible, he’s a goalscoring machine. He’s the most professional player I’ve ever met”.
In the 164 games Ronaldo played under Mourinho, he scored 168 goals and assisted 49 more. With the Saudi Pro League attracting managers as well, a potential reunion might still be on the cards.
